Flat screen Tv going after 18 months...where do we stand?

I was wondering if anybody could help us.
Me and the O/H bought a flat screen TV (Samsung) from our catalouge 18 months ago. In the last few days my O/H has complained he can see black shadows down the screen and they are getting worse.
What legal rights do we have? Does the catalouge have to replace/repair it?
Do we contact Samsung direct?
It cost £850 (paid for) so it's not something we can afford to replace out of our own pockets.
Thank you in advance.

Search to check if it is a known problem with the particular model. Can you see the problem?0

If it is still within it's guarantee/warranty period then you are fine, otherwise you might be facing an expensive shopping trip.We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0

You might find some useful information on this thread. I joined in when I had a problem with a tv from Curry's and have just accepted a partial refund:
