You can give me a cake and not worry for a second that it's wrapped in cling film rather than being in a posh box. If it helps, I'll give you an empty box which you can fill for me....
Hehe hope your lads find nice gals who'll bake for you once in a while; I've been known to make carrot cake for my OH's mum
Thanks for the great suggestions all, can't believe I didn't think of Lakeland straight away. Their Bakers' Moulds are pricey but worth getting a few for special gifts I think. Will also check the pound shop for foil-type trays!

Thanks, pd - son no 1 is with someone who will not, I think, turn out to be the home-baking sort, as I've only ever seen him in the kitchen round at theirs... I have a feeling they live on spag bol, as its something he's trained in. As for Son no 2 - his preferences run to strong, feisty types - to be a stayer they have to like Iron Maiden. Again, we'll be unlikely to find a home-baker there, either.
As I'm posting, just one thought occurs to me. I wouldn't be too sure about baking cakes in a foil try - if it's thin metal, might it get too hot and burn the outside of the sponge? With a metal baking tin, you line it with paper, which decreases the chance of burning I would think.Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0 -

Don't be too surewhen OH met me I was a pure punkrock girl (with a love of Maiden and thrash metal), I had multicoloured spiky hair, piercings, a Jack Daniels tolerance Ozzy would be proud of and lots of ropey mates with skinheads and tattoos.
Not much has changed but I make a mean fairy cake and a cracking chutneyIt takes all sorts :rotfl::rotfl:

That's along the lines of what I was going to say! I'm just like you floyd aside from the piercings and have spent several days baking cakes and twinks hobnobs of late.
I like baking, you get to eat the cake mix from the bowl with no-one around to yell! :rotfl:The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all.
