Sony Bravia 40inch LCD with free DVD Recorder £799 at Sony Centre

Hi all,
Was at the Sony Centre in Clarks Village near Glastonbury yesterday, and came across this fantastic offer.
A Sony Bravia LCD TV (40W4000) for £799 with FREE 5 year warranty AND a FREE Sony HXD890 160gb DVD Recorder!!!
The offer is only instore, and the details seem to change a bit depending on where you go (I phoned the Plymouth branch, and they quoted me £899, although I soon got them down to £799!!)
The specs are as follows (link to Amazon);
LCD TV
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-KDL-40W4000-Widescreen-Bravia-Freeview/dp/B0018PIBL6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1230569626&sr=8-1
DVD Recorder
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-RDR-HXD890-Freeview-160GB-Recorder/dp/B0018PRXWE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1230569798&sr=1-1
These are some fantastic pieces of kit, the TV alone is a multi-award winner, and normally the TV with a 1 year guarantee comes in at around £700 elsewhere. As for the DVD Recorder, my parents have the 120gb version, and it's a cracker!
I asked the chap who sold me it when I returned today (You knew that was coming...! :j ) how long the package deal was going on for, and he said "until they tell us to stop"... so if you're in the market for a good TV, check out Sony Centres and see if they're doing it also!
Good luck!

Not a problem, andy1974.
In actual fact, given the number of TV posts on the MSE Grabbits, I'm surprised this hadn't got more attention.
Have been spending the last couple of days gazing in awe at the lovely pictures and relishing my Xbox's new oomph!!** I swear my spending has only gone UP since I discovered the MSE Grabbits!! :rotfl:(But at least I'm getting it all cheaper!!)**0 -
That's what I thought as the DVD player alone is £200 on play.com so you could probably sell it for £150 on eBay making the tv and warranty £650. I'm putting mine in the bedroom and cancelling sky multiroom.0

I called and checked on current deals and was offered an 80Gb PS3 as a swap for the the recorder for another £50. :j0

I nearly bought this today from my local sony centre but was told it was only 50Hz so the image would not be as ggod as the W4500 for sporting events. The W4500 was £300 more expensive. Is is as good a tv as say the samsung 686 which is roughly the same price? It's so easy to laugh
It's so easy to hate

safc, I assume you mean the following Samsung?
http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/6569744/Samsung-Series-6-40-LE40A686-HD-1080p-Freeview-Widescreen-LCD-TV/Product.html
If so, the Samsung DOES have 100mhz technology, which is something I was VERY tempted to go for. However, I have heard that Samsung can be quite troublesome with their LCD TVs, often giving poor performance, whereas Sony tend to be more reliable.
The 40W4000 was the top of the range for non 100mhz TVs and as the 40W4500 was an extra £200 without the DVD recorder, I decided not to go COMPLETELY mad and buy that instead. I REALLY did my homework on this one before taking the plunge, and it seemed the best of the mid-range bunch.
The Samsung does have a lot of good features, and on paper may be as good if not better, but the Sony has won all sorts of awards, and gets consistently good reviews.
But then I would say all this... I bought it!! :rotfl:** I swear my spending has only gone UP since I discovered the MSE Grabbits!! :rotfl:(But at least I'm getting it all cheaper!!)**0 -
Thanks for that tomsk2.
My parents asked me to look out for a dvd recorder for them in the sales and after some research and reading reviews, I decided to recommend the RDR HDX890 and thought I'd found a good deal at Amazon. Then I saw your post and mentioned it to them and they decided they'd update their tele too.
So new TV and DVD ordered and being collected tomorrow. Great deal.0 -
Glad to hear it, Snapdragon!
As it happens, this DVD recorder is very parent friendly... My father, who never quite figured out how to set the VCR (or send an email, SMS or even alter his digital watch) is now merrily setting the DVD recorder to record stuff - without referring to my "cheat sheet" - as if he's been doing it for years!!
Now if I could just get him to understand the other stuff!! :rotfl:** I swear my spending has only gone UP since I discovered the MSE Grabbits!! :rotfl:(But at least I'm getting it all cheaper!!)**0
