without savers there can be no borrowers.
Pretty basic economics.
Penalise me and you have no access to funds.
You are being penalised already by having your interest taxed, and you still save.
Also research has shown the poorest in society cannot afford to save as they pay to much of their income in direct and indirect taxes. Bliar/Clown's answer to this in the case of children was Child Trust Funds which is a complete nonsense.
If the system was such that less people had to rely on benefits to top their income up so they could afford to live we wouldn't be having this discussion.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Simplistic nonsense, save, invest, offset and contribute to society is the answer.Nationalism is an infantile disease. It is the measles of mankind. - Albert Einstein.
“The nationalist not only does not disapprove of atrocities committed by his own side, but he has a remarkable capacity for not even hearing about them.”-

Britain has always had a strong puritan streak inclined towards extravagant gestures to reward the worthy and punish others. If one happens to fall into a worthy group then it seems heaven and earth can be moved to help you, regardless of almost any objective measure of need.

Like the Elizabethan "sturdy beggars" and "deserving poor" ideas....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I agree to a certain extent, but those who have substantial savings could perhaps have higher taxes (they can afford it) in order that those who have less can have more? The wealthy have paid far too little tax in recent times especially – this is not right.
i am not exactly wealthy, but i believe that there should be one band of tax for all.
why should the rich pay more tax.are they being punished for being rich??
in the same vein, why should there be inheritance tax?are u being punished for inheriting something??0
