Reader's Digest Immediate Payout Draw

My dh today received a letter from the Reader's Digest Finance Department about an entry into this and the possibility of winning £10,000. Was about to throw the letter away as we neither buy Reader's Digest nor has he entered this but a quick google search showed that such a draw really exists. We are supposed to watch for an orange envelope which will come in the post, after which he has 72 hours to decide if to say yes. The whole thing screams out scam to me.
So is it?

It isn't a scam as such, it is junk mail and once you receive the tenth such envelope in a month you will get rather bored. It even took me 6 months of continuous pleading to get taken off their junk mail list.

It's not a scam as such. The magazine has been running these competitions for years. Don't hold your breath about winning the top prize though. I think the odds are the same as the National Lottery.
There is another thread here on the same subject :-
