Free Save-a-Flush
basically a bag that goes in the toilet cistern and saves water with every flush. Good if you are on a meter.

there does not seem to be any location restrictions mentioned, it looks to be a National campaign.

It’s just a plastic bottle that you fill with water..... Any 500ml bottle will do the more bottles you add the more you save.
Warning test it out to make sure there is no obstructionsGONE ENGLAND0 -
Good point, put a small hole/s in the plastic bottle/s to allow movement of fresh water into the bottle, otherwise this bottle contents could go stagnent if water never exchanges from it.0

any similar volume object will do the trick - we have half bricks in our loos!!0

Well its raining out so I can't be bothered to go out a find a half brick!
Besides its a freebie so I'm bound to need it... Now I can sit and wait on the postie delivering it.0 -
I think my father-in-law has one of these beasties fitted. His was called a Hippo bag.
I frequently find myself cursing it when we stay with him and it fails to perform its allotted function. I've spent many frustrated minutes waiting for the cistern to refill (usually in the middle of the night when the associated noise is most likely to wake people up.)
Presumably, the designers of WCs have the greatest knowledge of their product and allocate a cistern capacity which is best able to perform a successful flush.
If the flush has to be used several times to achieve the desired effect it's hardly likely to be a money saver!

I've got one of these in my loo but I'm considering taking it out. As you say it takes ages for the cistern to fill up and then there isnt a decent "whoosh" on it to get rid of whats in the pan when you flush it. My loo has been blocked several times and once I had to call a plumber out for £30. So thats hardly saving me money is it?2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

I think the thing is that newer types of cistern have a reduced capacity purposely because of the water wasteage aspect - so if you're putting a save-a-flush bag into one of those, you probably will experience an inefficient action from the flush.
In that sort of circumstance, I would experiment with various capacity objects until I found one which saves a little water, whilst still releasing enough of a flush to "do the job", so to speak.:hello: I'm very well, considering the state I'm in. :hello:Weight loss since 2 March 10 : 13lbs0 -

Got mine through the post and placed it in the cistern, the Save-a-Flush is basically a sealed bag with lots of small holes across its surface, within the bag is a granular powder that when wetted expands. The Save-a-Flush displaces 1 litre of water on every flush and there have been no problems with the effectiveness of the toilet to speak of so far.

I've been using the Evian bottle in the cistern for years to save on the meter bill and keep the eco folks happy. It's the size sold in Coke vending machines. It's done the trick just fine for years, no problems.
.Keep smiling!0
