Ideas for a Home Made Present

Hi Everyone, as part of my New Years Resolution I plan to make birthday (and Christmas) presents in 2009. It's my mum's birthday in March and I want to get a head start on it - but have no ideas.
Can anyone think of something that I could make? She doesn't take baths (only showers so she isn't smelly!) so I can't make bath salts and I gave her home made soap last birthday. I gave her bed socks for Christmas so I can't do that either - however any other sewing, knitting or general crafting ideas would be welcome

Hi QOTD,
These Old Style threads may give you some ideas:
Homemade Gifts
The Complete HM Gifts Collection
Home made Xmas gifts (merged threads)
There are also lots of threads on the Special Occasions board that may help. I'll move your thread over there later to see if you can get some ideas from the experts who post on that board..

Could you perhaps embroider on a cushion cover?

this might not be of help but i personalised some candles. I had al the equipment anyway so of no extra cost to me. but if you go into a craft shop they may have stuff on offer etc.
here are the results

I plan on making the candles from scratch too but wanted to try this first to see the result and must say I was impressed.
if you want more info let me knowCan't think of anything funny to put here!

I had a lovely box of different goodies for Christmas .I too only use the shower and have to be careful with the shower stuff because of my mastectomy scar. My DD's ma-in-law made me a big box of stuff that I wouldn't normally buy myself, e.g. tins of exotic friut, tiny jars of specialist jams and marmalades,a lovely smelly candle ,a nice home made cushion for my chair ( I have a recliner) a holder for the remotes for the t.v. that I am always losing, a nice set of writing paper and envelopes with half a dozen stamps in with it. So many thoughtful things I was so pleased with. She even knitted a cover for my hot water bottle, and embridered my initials on there. There was so much thought went into it, I was really touched by her kindness.I saw her over the holiday and she said that she had started collecting bits in September, and had made quite a few home-made gifts for people.
I am tempted to have a go myself as I do enjoy knitting. At my age there are very few things that I actually need.
I know I made both of my DD's some shortbread this year as they love home-made goodies.0 -
Thanks everyone for your ideas - she lies gardening and reading so I thin I may loo at embroidering a cushion or bookmark (bookmark with be quicker with a little baby to look after!) and I love the idea of personalising candles - they look great :T0

how about sewing a pinney (apron) and perhaps oven gloves and tea cosy - line with wadding to stop heat coming through and perhaps a peg holder etc, all out of the same material? I always think they look nice in magazines.
I often go to tesco and buy a duvet cover and pillow case (often for about £4) and use the material to make all kinds of "matching" things.
