A temporary solution might be to use talcum powder in lieu of Batiste(much more MSE) and will do the trick for an extra day or so. Be very careful when washing your hair to make sure no water gets in, best to get OH or good mate to do the job for you. Hope you get better soon .

  • Thanks so much to everyone for your very kind and helpful words :A

I am pleased to report that I think I am finally on the mend...

The bleeding has stopped and the discharge from my ear  has almost stopped too. My cough and other awful symptoms are much better now thankfully.

This was definitely the worst flu/cold I can ever remember having!

    Happy New Year everyone :j

You poor thing. Flu is bad enough but an ear infection like this can be agony. My daughter is prone to them and has had a perforated drum a few times... not nice at all but the anti-biotics do work. Don't be tempted to stop taking them when you feel better as this can reoccur quite easily if it hasn't cleared up.

I think you've earned a nice hair do when you have recovered!

  • As a sufferer of recurring Otitis externa (inflammation of the ear canal), I always use cling film over my ears when I am washing my hair to keep them dry along with a small plug of cotton wool sealed with vaseline. This does the trick for me - I can't use ear plugs because they irritate my ears and set off the inflammation.
