more of a rant than anything....

Before I post sorry for this but im annoyed and need to tell someone!

Me and my girlfriend want our own place, like most couples. I have two credit agreements a car and bike. My bike im returning tomorrow and my car settling February. Excellent all our wages go to pay for new house. My parents gladly agreed to lend me the money for the deposit, excellent. I put all things in place, lined up a house etc.

Now my lovely mum has changed her mind for no good reason! Im so annoyed, she can't bear to see me happy.

I now have to explain to the banks (luckily I havent entered full agreements yet) that I cant proceed.

Grrrrrrr!

I never wish to depend on anyones word. I will soon have no credit agreements I will do it my way, save, save, save, and the day I have enough will be the happiest of my life. It will be months or even years away but it will be worth it.
Debts going!

Maybe she is worried that the deposit will be eaten up by negative equity? Have you sat down and discussed things?

  • if your mum offered to help you re money in the first place, then she must have meant to do good by you, maybe they are having money problems and cant now help? have you asked your mum what the deal is?

or your mum could be like my dad, everything he says I take with a pinch of salt!! I have learnt the hard way and shed many a tear over peoples so called help and then thier backturn on it.

my advice , save on your own, it will take longer but you wont be depending or relying on anyone. thats what I did. xx

  • I know money is no problem, they have enough to buy the house twice! Its kind of rubbed in my face that they have the money I need but I have been ignoring it because of the promises.

I have asked for reasons with no real answer. Its a shame but a lesson learn't. I will be saving from now on.

On the bright side I have a new years resolution!

£10k in one year. Maybe a new thread/challenge?

It's her money, she can do with it what she likes!

She must have her reasons even if she's not sharing them with you - I'm guessing (but could be wildly wrong) that you've upset her in some way

Good for you .... why don't you set up an MSE diary, add your totals to your sig. There's been some massive success' that way.

Had to giggle at this! ;)

Irrespective of how much money your parents have, the fact is that it is theirs, not yours. Perhaps they feel it would be better for you to learn the value of money by saving up the deposit yourself?

Could I ask why you are returning the bike?
    Gone ... or have I?

My father used to say Never a borrower or lender be, and I wish I had listened.
In 1990 I lent my oldest son a very large deposit on a bungalow, he and his wife promised to pay back £100 per month, but I have not had one penny, I have watched them spend money left right and center, at the moment they are on a three week holiday in South Africa. Luckily I had a charge put on the property when it was bought, I think they have forgotten that. I am now in my golden years and when I pop my clogs they will be in for a BIG shock.

So I say good on your mum, there is more family problems over money owed than most other things.
