Can I declare at £131.12. I had miscalculated my month and it should've been £105 - still an overspend, but I have enough beans and loo roll (the two are not connected :D ) for a couple of months and few other bits and pieces that were on offer so won't worry too much, as long as by the the end of the year I'm under £1200 I'll be pleased (and surprised  )

Can you put me down for £90 for Feb

    Thanks

The bag has increased in size by 33%. (not 25% ;))
The price per bag has increased by 156%.
The £/KG has increased by 92% - which is nearly double the price!!

    size increase
    = new size / old size x100 -100
    = 1000g/750g x100 -100
    = 33% increase in size

    cost per bag increase
    = new £ per bag / old £ per bag x100 - 100
    = 100p / 39p x100 - 100
    = 156% increase in cost

    price increase
    = new £ per KG / old £ per KG x100 -100
    = 100p / 52p x100 -100
= 92% increase in price per KG

I've just had my final MrT delivery for Jan. Total came to £72.79. Of this £4.37 was on wipes/etc, £4.28 was toiletries and £8.38 was on household items. So only £55.76 was on food. This included muller little stars for 79p, Filippo Berio extra v. olive oil half price £1.99 (cheaper than MrT's own brand), 240 Typhoo teabags £3 (cheaper than MrT's own brand), and princes tuna in water which are £3 for 4 tins (cheaper than MrT's own) :D

My total spend for January is £320.63 / £350 :)

    Off to update my siggy...

  • Hi Mrs M - I am declaring £186.16 for Jan :j :j :j I am very pleased to be in budget, however, think I may have set this high initially, as I am reading posts from people with a MUCH bigger family to feed who's budgets are set at much less than mine (there's only me, DD and 2 cats). It was my first time tho'.

Anyway, with this in mind, I would like to set my FEB budget at £150 please and see how we manage on that. ;)

Am planning to do a big shop tomorrow (at A!di and Mr T's) - was also planning to go to FFoods (as I just found out there's one less than 10 miles away) - not so sure now tho'!

Anyway, well done to everyone - see you in Feb!! :hello:

Hi, I'm new to the GROCERY CHALLENGE please put me down for £350 for FEB. I know this seems a lot as we are a family of me, OH, DS12 and DS8 but I've never really budgeted before, so I could be way off with the figures! My month will start on Fri 30 Jan.

LOL I never said I was great at maths but I knew the increase was over 150% so I'm giving myself points for that :rotfl:

mouseymousey99 Today I bought Nescafe 200g for £2.39, Nestle cones 4 for 50p (Fab, Smarties and After Eights), Milk is 4 pints for a £1, Scotch Pies £1.29 for six, Ribena Pure Blackcurrant juice 1 litre are on 3 for a £1, Potato Waffles £1.20(ish) a packet, Hash Browns £1 a bag

It may be that the £1 veg is still cheaper than the big stores, what annoyed me so much was the fact the increase was being 'hidden' behind a change in packaging that and the fact that I was SO disappointed!

The fridge is so bare!!! Just a very sad piece of cheddar and some milk!
Can't wait to go shopping at the end of the week.
Our DS15 eats like mad sometimes but with him I'm sure it's thirst rather than hunger. He always has to be reminded to drink throughout the day and if not nagged he can go a whole day with just one drink (and very brown wee!) We've warned him he'll damage his kidneys, his brain doesn't function properly without fluid and his teenage spots will get worse if he doesn't drink!:rotfl:

Haven't posted much this month but have been keeping upwith the challenge.

I finish on Saturday so will post my Jan total then. In the meantime as the new thread is due-
Mrs M please put me down for
    £140 for Feb
I need to spend a little extra as I want to do some batch cooking - tiring of sarnies for lunch at work so need a few meals for that.

OH's work contract finishes on Friday but the company haven't let him know yet if they are keeping him on any longer, it's a temp contract but he needs to know where he stands so he can get the agencies to look for another placement for him - not to mention he has a couple of days hols to take.
He has a couple of jobs that the agencies have put him forward for, we just have to hope something comes up.

Bought some seville oranges on Saturday and have made some marmalade - have never been that fussed but it is really nice home made. I may have to make another batch while the oranges are still in the shops.:D

Keep up the good work everyone.
