New Consumer's Issues Board Definately Required

Following on from reading another thread where a poster requested a Legal Issues Board, I really think there is a place for just a basic Consumer's Issues Board, which could cater for a multitude of options.

I think it should be a board which is sited just under the Grab It and Shop Boards and could be the perfect place for people to post about any matter to do with an item bought from sites/companies listed in the other boards.

Moving this type of topic to the discussion board is a huge mistake in my opinion as the people who frequent Discussions and those who frequent the Shops and Buys Boards are from two very different camps.

People enjoy discussing topics that are relevant to them and tend to stick to the boards that suit best, so there tend to be like minded people reading and posting on the same thread.

Posters who want to talk about what happened with their order from so and so are not usually interested in getting into long full blown discussions about the rights or wrongs of a situation, which is what will happen if these topics are left in Discussions.

Wider issues tend to be discussed there, it really is not the right place for consumer discussions. :-/

A dedicated board where it is needed would simplify matters greatly, imo.

I totally agree with the idea of a Basic Consumer's Issuue's Board. :)

But I'm afraid I do not agree with the rest of your statement. :o
In fact I personally feel offended that you put the Grabbit Board & Disscussion's Boards as you say, from two very different camp's ???. I don't think that is a very nice thing to say at all.

The disscussion's board can become quite airiated at time's and have noticed a lot get quite rude with personal remark's, so really I feel that the people from the grabbit boards may not alway's want to get caught up in these argument's.

It is good to be able to disscuss subject's that you like to get other people's opinion's, but not when they totally loose it, not many want to be part of this.

The idea of everything running smoothly and friendly is fine for most of us, but there are them that like to spoil it for everyone or should I say try. ;)

Why there has to be this nit picking & sniping is beyond me, where as we all come to this site for the same reason to save money and hopefully help someone else in return, as the amount of help that is given, is for us all to benefit enormously and we do. :)

I truely don't want to offend anyone by what I have written, and if taken wrongly appologise for any offence that is taken. :)

    Pat.
  • I agree with you Aliasajo, it seems like a good idea to me that the long running threads on the Grab It board could be moved to a board where people can update others on the progress of their order beit from Virgin, Tesco or even Empire. Perhaps this could be considered in the board shuffle.

This would mean that the latest bargain to be had would remain on the first page instead of being lost on the 2nd or 3rd page. Often time is of the essence for a half price microwave in Tesco and the chance can be missed by readers who don't look past the first page :D

Sorry Pat but you have lost me with your post. Of course the posters on some boards are totally different from those who post on other boards and I don't see how that can offend you or anyone else for that matter. I can't see the guy who wants the latest gadget being much interested in the latest recipe for a slow cooker!

Users here get different things from MSE which makes for the great diversity of this community and the fact is that some may never stray from their "favourite" boards ;D

Pat: I am truly sorry to have offended you.

However, my post was not written in the vein you took it in, I promise.

I was trying to point out that (with the very odd exception) the majority of people who post on the Discussions Board are not as interested in the Grab It Board and the like, as perhaps I and numerous others are.

By the different camps remark I was trying to illustrate the fact that people tend to post mostly in the area that interests them. I was certainly not trying to cast a slight on anyone or suggest some people/boards are friendlier than others.

    However you yourself write that:

'The disscussion's board can become quite airiated at time's and have noticed a lot get quite rude with personal remark's, so really I feel that the people from the grabbit boards may not alway's want to get caught up in these argument's. '

That's the whole point. Discussion Board has a wide variety of topics but they are usually about life in general/news items/politics etc. This is the kind of thing that people (including myself) enjoy discussing there. Not many then head off up to the Shop/Grab It Boards to talk about consumer items such clothes which haven't arrived. There's just not the same interest. :-/

I think I'm correct in saying that even Traf thought the move to Discussions was wrong and she's a Discussions stalwart. (Correct me if I'm wrong Traf?)

Obviously everyone will have different viewpoints, none are any more important than others........they are just different.

I've re-read my original post and to be honest I'm not sure how it could have been seen as offensive. :-/

I would've thought the peeps around here would've known my style of writing well enough by now to know that my posts are not aimed to offend.

BUT, the fact is that I offended you and for that I apologise.

Yes Aliasojo I really do see your point, and maybe I was being a bit defensive of the Grabbit board when you put that "we were from very different camp's",
But again another remark that Traf made in the last week on another thread, that is so difficult when it is pen to paper or finger's on key's that you want it to come out one way and it end's up being taken another way, I unfortunately have done this a few time's myself and generally find myself wishing I could just pick up the phone and ring whoever and say " I didn't mean it to sound like that " as it is so cold the wriiten word sometime's.

So I am sorry I took you the wrong way and sorry if I came across in a way that I really didn't mean too :).

And can we please go to the pub and have a glass of wine on that, and a big hug :).

This is the reply that I put in the DT re: sort out disscussion's and wanted to bring it here to you both Edlass & Aliasojo, as I want to reiterate again to you Both. :)

And again, Can we please go to the pub and have a glass of wine on that and a big hug. :)

Just to put my two penneth in - I think it would be a good idea to have a seperate board for consumer issues - somewhere people can get advice for what their rights are, ie, following on from the Gamecube/Empire, etc type threads. I agree that once they have got past the "buying"stage, perhaps they should not stay on the "Grab it" or other shopping boards (apart from possibly the first part of a thread saying how it started, together with a link to where it had moved to). Once it gets to that point, its just clogging up the genuine posts for bargains and sales that are still "live".

In particular with the gamecube thread, for example, where no new purchases will obviously be made for that "bargain" price.

Not having ventured past the "shops" part of the boards, I cannot comment much about how it works on the Discussions section - which possibly illustrates Aliasojo's point of often people sticking to a certain area.

You could use the argument that if there is a link from the original posting, it doesn't matter where the continuation is, however, for someone new wanting advice on a particular purchasing problem, I feel that it would be best placed somewhere within the "shopping" section.

Hope that makes sense - its been a long day today ;D

Oh for God's sake and you wonder why people leave!!!
  • Hi there,

It has been decided that while their is merit to this idea, as the forum software is due to change in the very near future, the creation of any new forums will be left until then. In the meantime please continue to enjoy the discussion boards in their current state.

    Regards

Did read this thread last night, and wasnt quit sure if I had understood it right so rushed of back to the relatively safe waters of the argos thread!
Didn't dare put any coments in incase I had totaly misunderstood Pat . Now everyones talking about drinking wine feels safer. I know how easy it is to mis read a text or email without the tone there so can totaly understand that one .

    Heres the relevent bit ---->

I Think  there should be a  discusion board  under the Grab it while you can for "Stuff that can no longer be grabbed" Ok it could probabley do with a better title but would keep the New  "grab its" at the top of list . When the site is re done of course.

end of relevant bit, gonna run back to argos thread now........ soon as top gear finished.
Nope.... Still cant think of owt interesting to put here.
