the way i got rid of my generic error is to log out then add something in your basket (still logged out) go to checkout an log back in and remove the item you have just added then your basket will be as it was
if that makes sense lol

It's just an alternative browser to Internet Explorer. I was having ame probs as you and switched to Mozilla and it's working fine (touch wood)
