My turkey carcass, a couple of onions, couple of carrots and some celery went into the slow cooker earlier, covered with water. It is cooking away and smells delicious but what do I do with it once done
It is very watery (I think OH put quite a bit of water in). Do I blend it with the veg a make a (runny) soup? Or do I sieve it and freeze it and use a stock for casseroles etc. over the next few months? I've done thins sort of think before, put it in the fridge and ended up throwing it out a few weeks later  and really what to avoid wasting it. Help please x

If it's really runny then I would think stock is about the limit for it personally, unless you could do something by adding lentils? (I'm no chef though lol) Sieve and freeze is what I usually do a couple of times a month with carcass, though it gets used often.0

I cooked mine up, sieved it and let it cool then skimmed as much fat as I could off of it, Now I have frozen it to use in soups etc0

Ditto - I made up two large stock pots worth of stock so half went into the freezer and the other half will be turned into soup, which should be two days worth.
Amanda65, i used to end up throwing my stock away too. So now i make it up and portion it and then put it straight into the freezer. Now i always seem to have a steady supply of stock when ever i need it.Kind Regards

self sufficient - in veg and eggs from the allotment0 -
I nearly always make a soup with some of my stock - using some onion, a couple of grated carrots and a good handful of long grain rice, lots of pepper and a little salt.
It's very tasty!0 -
I freeze mine in ice cube trays - HM stock cubes!! - and then take out as many as I need.
I have a bag for chicken stock and another for beef stock. The stock that came off my gammon pieces yesterday went straight into a soup that is simmering away with lentils in there are we speak - yum yumAnywhere is within walking distance - if you have the time!!0 -
You ladies are incredibly resourceful. Much more practical than drippy ,syrupy sweet Nigella0

I've just done the same thing, I think I put too much water in too. So, I'm reducing mine down now, in a big pan on the hob. Once it's reduced enough, I'm going to bag half of it and freeze it for stock, and make soup with the rest.

I have to say that I tried making stock out of a carcass in the slow cooker once and it's just not the same as bubbling it for an hour on the hob....I am the leading lady in the movie of my life

Thanks for the help people. I have had it in the fridge since it cooled an am going to take off the fat and freeze it down for soups / stews.
That will see us through some cold, winter nights0 -
We had turkey oven-baked risotto tonight using 3/4 of a pint of the turkey stock I made on Boxing Day. It was very tasty, but could have used some more tomatoes.0
