They're in Yorkshire as well as Nottingham, although I did think they were more spread about too. They don't seem to have a website either.

It was a small national chain of about 50 stores selling budget footware such as school shoes and winter boots and slippers - so another small chain feels the crunch.

Nearly half of the Jonathan James shops have been saved, including my local one. So a bit of good news for a change. Still bad for the staff in the forty odd shops thats have gone though.

Oh, ok. There is also a wedding dress shop called Jonathan James.

Jonathan Joseph James (December 12, 1983 - May 18, 2008), a.k.a. c0mrade, was an American hacker who was the first juvenile incarcerated for cybercrime in the United States.[1] The South Florida native was 15 years old at the time of the first offense and 16 years old on the date of his sentencing. He died on May 18th, 2008. Although details regarding his death were never released, it is notably speculated that James committed suicide. [2]

A bit of good news then, but where will the saved ones be in December 2009? Will they last?

So they have done a pre-pack as well probably to get out of paying suppliers and landlords.

Are Broughton Brothers part of the same wider group like the USC deal the other day?

  • Being old enough and living close enough to where the Broughtons started out I remember the good old days of Jonathan James over 30 years ago.
They changed, moved on I suppose but they went downhill some time ago. You can't keep selling **** for ever.
This I think has been the problem with a number of high street shops over the past few years. Shop after shop selling the same things, and things a good majority of people didn't want to buy.
Of course I feel sorry for all the people loosing their jobs but hopefully out of this mayhem there will come shops selling goods people want, not just being full of rubbish.
If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.
