There's a cream called Ultrabase that you have to ask for at the phar4macy counter.Comes in tubes (about £2) or a huge dispenser (about £9).It doesn't have any lanolin in it-which both my daughters are allergic to.It smells nice and disappears into the skin.Pseudocreme (?)- at the baby section never caused a reaction and is magic on skin irritations/infections-downside is that it doesn't smell good and is a bit messy

He isn't a big milk drinker, just has it on cereal in morning but he does love cheese and yoghurt. It could be dairy I suppose, he isn't a particularly good eater though so wouldn't really want to cut these things out as they are good for calcium in children.

If you think your son might have a food allergy, you can ask his doctor to arrange blood tests. If you've never had one yourself, I can assure you they're really not painful at all! Nurses do often lie about vaccinations feeling like a tiny pinprick, but in the case of taking blood for allergy tests, they do mean it. ;)

Depending on where you are, it should take maybe a week or so to get results back.

He might not be allergic to dairy at all - but at least you'd know for sure. Totally free on the NHS and minimal hassle.

As for yourself, a blood test might do you good. If it's different facial products you're having problems with, it might be that you're allergic to parabens and that's not something you'll be able to confirm without having some bloods taken.

If you're not keen on blood tests, you could try keeping a diary of things that your son eats every day and how bad you think his eczema is on a scale of 1 to 10. It might help identify something that's triggering his eczema off.
  • I don't know if he is allergic to a specific food or not.
he does eat alot of bread, wholemaeal only! Although for his birthday party I did buy a white loaf!!LOL!

I agree that there is no cure and I am skeptical about diets but only because my friend's teenage son has dreadful acne and he has tried eating more fruit and veg, cutting down on burgers and cokes etc. He is heartbroken when he sees other boys eating crap that do not have acne. If he was a girl they would put him on the pill (they did with his sisters).
  • my daughters is brought on by stress - when it gets bad we use hydrocortisone and dermol, we use t-gel shampoo and only shower no baths and no soap but its the fact that when she is stressed it breaks out on her scalp, under her arm and also on her private bits -

OP has your son been referred to a consultant or a specialist clinic? My son was.
Do not buy things whicvh you can get free on prescription.
My ds was better after his 'father' left and he smoked, also better after 2 months of dairy replaced by goats milk, only to try if you know you can get goat milk and are not put off by the smell. also stress exacerbates it.
in a hurry now cos my littlun just woke up but please pm me if you want cos ds has suffered since 18 months old and he is now 8 yrs so we have been through probably all the prescribed meds and all the people in the street who 'well meaning' try to tell you what to do!

  • My DD now 7 started with eczema at five months - cheeks, elbows and knees. She is a very shy child and a bit nervy so anything that 'upsets' her is likely to set it off. I was told when she was 8 months that Liz Earle products could help. I know it is supposed to be for adults but it is supposed to be all natural.

I tried the body wash, body cream and the cleanse and polish (without using the cloth to 'polish') - within a month it was clear. I now always have it in the cupboard but only use it when the symptoms first appear - way too expensive for everyday. I used is exclusively on her skin for the first two years and then tapered off to see how often it was needed.

My OH had dreadful eczema from neck to ankle when he was growing up - was one of the guinea pigs for Oilatum. He still has outbreaks and the Liz Earle sorts him too.

I deal with the company directly via their website, not QVC where I first found them. You always get better value with one p&p - also loads of little free gifts in your parcel!!

Good luck - it is heartbreaking watching them try to deal with this and not being able to wave your magic 'mum wand' and make it go away.

Thanks to this fantastic site and it's amazing people, we have paid over £63, 000 off - just over half way!!!
    :T THANK YOU:T
