hair dye q HOME NOT HAIRDRESSER

i think ive tried every dark brown hair dye there is (as soon as i start i dont want to know about getting it done at a hairdressers, i cant afford it, and thats not the question :) but they all make my hair go a reddy or gingery tinge. if i go black i always get a purply tinge as well. does anyone know a HOME hair dye which dyes your hair VERY DARK BROWN with no red or ginger tints? oh and it has to cover grey totally..
the second q is (i have asked few months back but cant find the thread)
on very dark coarse hair, which home dye/bleach can make it go lightest blonde, almost white without breaking it off..i only dye my fringe but it always goes ginger

....ummmm.. so you want your hair dark brown but with a white fringe?

...anyway, I think a lot of browns have some red in them as brown is made from red and even natural brown hair has red or copper tones to it.

I use Garnier Nutrisse (the one that Davina McColl advertises) but it does have a slight reddish tint to it. They're just brought out a new range of shades (I think the names are something to do with toffee..caramel... etc) They may be more brown than red.

Yes, well, that's alright then :D

I got sick of paying £55 for a cut and colour so I did my own hair colour recently and got my husband to cut it for me  I was very lucky to get some GHD's for chrimbo and now I have the best hair that I've had for ....well.... forever!

Good luck with your hair colouring x x x

In the past I've used 'Live' hairdyes and they always come out in the colour they are supposed to.

I know what you mean about changing hair colours. At the moment mines black with a bright red parting

Contact your local college or look in the yellow pages for training hairdressers. I get mine done at the local hair dressing acadamy. It costs 12.00 for a cut and colour. They use top quality hair dye as well only downside is it can take forever so take a book. My hair always goes ginger too and they explained that the hair dye i need must be ash based to keep my locks brown. If you live in the midlands I can give you the contact details.

ooooh no i wouldnt go to a training place i did work experience at one and thr results that some clients got were, lets say, unusual! anyway, after years of searching i have found a dark brown dye which is-DARK BROWN AND DARK BROWN ONLY! no orange and no red and no aubergine! its schwartzkopf vital colors dark brown number 80. im really pleased with it, way better in my opinion that loreal, country colours, excellence etcetc, one thing i will say though is it didnt colour all my grey but most of it.
