Argos Prices Beware

I noticed the following in the description of an item I bought before Xmas.

Additional Information

* Please note item 6704087 has previously been on sale at £39.14.
Current selling price valid until 16/01/2009

The price is now £78.29, supposedly during a 'sale'. I've noticed that several other items notably in the PC peripherals range (things typically bought after Xmas to go with the new PC) have also similarly increased.

A cynical attempt to claw back some of the pre Xmas discounts while people are in 'sales mode' and spending their Xmas money perhaps?

Please check any thing you order carefully on the website to ensure you are not being ripped off.

  • I've noticed this with Tesco - had an eye on a DVD Recorder I want for about a month now..... was £219 all December - now it's £249!

    500/5880 Dec 24th £29.39 Dec 27th £58.69

PURE EVOKE-2XT Stereo DAB Digital/FM Radio.

    500/5268 Dec 24th £97.89 Dec 27th £117.49

Some items have gone down in price

    Sony XDRS55 DAB/FM Radio - Black.

    500/5787 Dec 24th £48.90 Dec 27th £32.59

  • no store can keep the same item on sale all the time??

argos's deals change weekly/monthly depending on which flyer they are in so just because the things you happened to want are dearer loads of other stuff is cheaper too

i know its annoying as a rug i wanted at the start of dec was half price to £45 then when i went to buy it a week or so ago it was £70ish... thank god i didn't buy it as its even less than half price now :D

hopefully those things will come back down again for you

I've been going through it online and the amount of "save over a £1" items they have is unreal. I suppose its so they can say they have x amount of items on sale.

It's not just them - soooooooo many other places claim to have hundreds of reduced prices, which really only relate to the VAT cut, of just a few pennies!!

Yeah, the savings are because of the VAT reduction. Their website was probably made to automatically advertise every price reduction as a special offer and they didn't anticipate that they would be reducing everything by a tiny amount and it's too much hassle for them to change their website.

When seeing those nominal discounts of a few quid on expensive items like cookers it just looks silly, which is exactly what the VAT reduction is.

a few years ago I bought a triple handset phone ,reduced from £100 to £40 .
The next week it was half price ,£50 .

  • Some u win some u lose, if Argos sold everything at a price too good to be true, hence made a loss would go bust and you would have to buy elsewhere. Why not just accept a fair price and stop moaning
