Warrantey question

I'm not even sure I am posting this in the right place, this is my first post and I am a little new to this site - please advise if I should be posting this elsewhere.

I have a laptop which the 12 months warrantly runs out on the 18th January, one of the keys have come off - how do I stand with the warrantey, will they repair - or will this be up to me? I purchased from Comet.

    Hi KerryL,

    Welcome to MSE!

If this is covered by the warranty, then the timing won't be a problem. However, they may say that it is down to wear and tear, and therefore not covered.

How has the key come off? Will it not click back on?

I wouldn't accept them saying it's wear and tear, in less than a year! Unless you are continuously pressing same key.

It depends on how it is broken and how much use the keyboard has had. As someone that uses their laptop for at least eight hours a day, every day, I would not be surprised if one of the keys occasionally unclips.

Well, it was one of those stupid moments when you think why did i do that! I left the laptop on the sofa while i went to make a cuppa, my puppy got on the sofa and as i told her to get down she must have caught her nail and one of the keys came off - trouble is i can't find it, and suspect she found it before me!! I'm not sure how expensive, or how i go about getting this repaired?? or even if i should bother contacting comet?

Theres only one way you are going to find out - ask.
Unless it is physically broken in some way and not just unclipped then it isnt something that I would imagain Comet will want to make a big deal out of.

By the way do you have any contents insurance - Even if you have not asked for accidental damage the last 3 policies I've had (I change every year) have all included accidental damage to TV's, Hi Fi's and computers (not 100% sure about laptops, need to read fine print)as a bonus. Just dont mention the puppy (yes, I know, lies by omission etc) as damage by pets is as far as I can tell never included (and near impossible to find - I know, I've looked, my dog eats the most amazing things)

Most likely Comet will just fix it for you under warranty - and even out of warranty you have some come back as goods must be fit for purpose and give reasonable lifetimes of working properly.

Is it a long way to Comet from you?
