Yes, I'm sure you can find distinct parallels between most politicians & Mugabe or any dictator of your choice.

(1)He was elected in 1983, returned to parliament in each general election since then. He was selected by his party in an election, the only other candidate lost his proverbial deposit.

(2)Most politicians do; & lets be honest Brown wasn't the only one to be a bit crap at spotting (or good at ignoring) the massive, looming debt balloon waiting to pop. See John Redwood's infamous "less regulation for mortgages"; the entire US economy; the Icelandic economy etc.

(3)Most politicians do - see the introduction of the "Patriot Act", for the textbook example; though the Terrorism Act (2006) was also a fine example.

(4)Most politicians will. But there's a distinct difference between not holding an election until required & sending the boys in to kick the blue blazes out of the opposition.

Well said "Guy" (I assume this is a Fahrenheit 451 reference rather than your actual name).
I can't stand Brown, and I find much that he's done abhorrent. But some perspective is useful!!

Well spotted. You win today's prize: a £50 Zavvi token:money:
"Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.
"I think I'll become an alcoholic," said Betty.
  • Thanks :rotfl:
When I was considering taking on a pseudonym for the purposes of anonymity on this board, Guy Montag was a character that crossed my mind!

Was about to plump for Hank Rearden, when I thought sod it I'll stand by the courage of my convictions and stick with my real name.

(Not casting aspertions on those who don't use their name!!)

It's easy to look good on borrowed money, it's what you do when the money has gone and needs to be repaid, his solution ?, borrow our childrens money to keep him in power.

Yep. Brown has reduced our country to the level of DFW. He's taken the easy credit and spent it on flash Land Rovers and big TVs. All the while claiming that we are considerably richer than yow to the rest of the world.

  • I don't really think one person can be blamed for people taking credit that they cannot afford, but I do think he has rather a strange face, really quite unattractive

Although at first this seems to be funny, the irony is, this is exactly what he has done. Unf**kinbelievable., am I angry, too right.

Thank god my daughter now resides in Australia, so won't have to pay back Brown's (read thick chav) enormous amount of borrowing, and within the next 4 years I'm off there too, along with my tax revenue. I think it will coincide with the humiliation of going to the IMF with a begging bowl.

Me too!. Parents had a strange sense of humour.

On topic: Brown. Don't like him, or his lies, but then he's a politician. Think they're all the same. I also don't buy the Vince Cable is God theory. He called one thing right, possibly by reading cgnao from HousePriceCrash a few years ago.

Is it true the a bloke from the local pub actually played all the guitar solos on Steve Hillages Open album? The real Nick Mason would know the answer I guess!
    Happy chappy
