    My apologies, you are indeed correct.

    Taken from Microsoft's site;

    If you use Windows XP Professional, the Windows Backup utility (Ntbackup.exe) should be ready for use. If you use Windows XP Home Edition, you'll need to follow these steps to install the utility:

    1. Insert your Windows XP CD into the drive and, if necessary, double-click the CD icon in My Computer.

    2. On the Welcome to Microsoft Windows XP screen, click Perform Additional Tasks.

    3. Click Browse this CD.

    4. In Windows Explorer, double-click the ValueAdd folder, then Msft, and then Ntbackup.

    5. Double-click Ntbackup.msi to install the Backup utility.

    Using Microsoft backup in XP Home does not fully support ASR as XP Pro does.
  • most of us have OEM versions of XP so have no CD!
  • My XP Home is an OEM version which came with my Dell PC a couple of years ago. It did come with a reinstallation CD, and the file in question is on that.

    Those without a CD can download the file from here http://www.winxptutor.com/ntbackup.htm

    This is a full version of Winbackup which makes it easy to run regular back ups and enables you to restore data.

    Not sure I fully understand the question. A backup programme simply does what the name suggests, ie it backs up whatever files you select in case the originals are accidentally deleted or corrupted. You can back them up to another hard drive or CD/DVD etc. So, it will not save space on your hard drive (unless you subsequently delete the files you've backed up).

    As regards WinBackup 1.86, I've tried it and would thoroughly recommend it. In my opinion, it's much better in several respects than the old ntbackup programme that Microsoft shipped with Windows XP.
