Warning: Colgate toothpaste 'laced with anti-freeze'

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1101143/Shops-alert-fake-Colgate-laced-anti-freeze.html

Fake Colgate toothpaste, which may be contaminated with harmful chemicals, has been sold across the country.

The 100ml tubes, labelled Colgate Cavity Protection, have been bought by thousands of customers at Sainsbury's and Boots stores.

The chains have sent warnings to customers who used loyalty cards for the purchase, but many others cannot be traced. .............

I have a load of these I got from Boots a couple of months ago.

Raises serious questions about the supply chain of our biggest retailers- not just this product.
  • It's absoultely disgraceful and when are these companies going to wake up and think about shipping products off to be made in China just because it's cheaper! It's about time the government did something, it's know wonder the country is in financial crisis. I for one have been buying uk made natural products for a while now simply because of things like this! (Rant over, Merry Christmas!).

This is being blown up out of all proportion, as usual. There are a few key paragraphs that knee-jerk reactionaries have probably managed to over look:
the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said DEG, sometimes used as a low-cost but potentially deadly substitute for glycerine sweetener in cough medicines, was a 'low health risk'.
Colgate in the UK said last night the fake product in Britain does not contain DEG, while Sainsbury's said it 'does not believe' the ingredients are harmful.

The product is NOT contaminated with 'anti-freeze' but rather an ingredient of anti-freeze, namely DEG. It is doubtful that anyone actually has any toxic toothaste in their bathrooms, the recall is merely a precaution.
