Anyone seen any toastabags around?

today my son put a toastie bag in the toaster and the fuses switched and the electric went off!!!! The toastie bag was burnt in one place. Fuse went in toaster and bag went in bin.

I'd never heard of toastabags before. Sounds like a good idea, but are they actually any good? (I can't help thinking that you may end up with the sandwich contents sinking to the bottom of the bag).

We got ours from the Ideal Home Show a couple of years ago - the appeal being that you could stick them in the dishwasher over the plate racks. However, after several uses, they then started to burn the toast and smoke would billow out of them. Not sure if this was down to the fact that they had been in the dishwasher - really good invention though - better than trying to clean a sandwich toaster.Only 5% of those who can give blood, actually do!

I love sandwich toasties but don't really have the space for another appliance and we don't have a toaster at home but at work we have one of those toasters that you put the bread inbetween the rack and it toasts the bread. It is perfect for toasties.
I had a toastie bag that came with a sandwich once and used it loads of times until it went missing. It was really strong and I was really upset as they stopped selling the sandwiches and have not been able to find the bags in the shops near me.0 -

Plus, unless you have mega-wide slots in your toaster, you need to flatten the bag fairly hard or the bag won't fit.
But yes, they are easier to clean than a sandwich toaster! Is there one out there yet where you can remove the plates to get them clean?Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I've had one with removable plates for years - I think it's a Breville or a Morphy Richards. Very good quality with non-stick plates which can be removed in case you allow stuff to get burned on to the surface.
I'll have a look and see if I can find details of it online somewhere.
EDIT: I've found it on Amazon for under £20 - I'm sure you could get it cheaper on eBay. The one I have is chrome and looks nicer than this one, but I guess it toasts your sandwiches exactly the same!
Here you go...0 -
I really want one but just don't have the cupboard or worktop space.
I will only be using the toastabag at work when I get one as we don't have a toaster at home. It has wide slots so will fit perfectly, the bag I used to have fit snugly anyway.0 -

Here you go...Quite tempted by the sandwich press as well, rave reviews, but again only does two at once. Mind you, now I know they're out there I shall think seriously about buying another one. Clip on the old one broke, but it was such a bother to clean we weren't using it much.

Savvy_Sue wrote:Personally, I don't think they're anything like as good as 'the real thing', ie a sandwich toasted in a proper sandwich toaster. It's not that the contents sink to the bottom (although I only do cheese), but they just don't taste right: more like toast with melted cheese in the middle.
Hmm, I've just bought some from Lakeland and given them a try. I have to say I agree with you, so far I'm not too impressed, I ended up with slightly burnt toast, with partially melted cheese!
Looks to me as if they'll probably work better with thinly sliced bread, I'll give that a try next time.
