petitioned for bankruptcy when living abroad

Does anyone know what happens if a creditor petitions for my bankruptcy in my absence?
What are my obligations?
I am a permanent resident in the USA and there is no way I am able to pay for the loan that I have in the UK.
I'm really worried as to what I am going to do.

You should write to the court providing your current address and contact details. You can be made bankrupt without attending the hearing and if you live abroad.
Then the OR would contact you and try to obtain the info they need by post and or email... so you have been served with a copy of a bankruptcy petition? or what stage are the proceedings at? if you are made bankrupt you must cooperate with the OR, otherwise you may have your discharge suspended and if the coourt orders a public exmaination which you fail to attend the court may issue warrabt for arrest. the OR would only seek a public exmination if you had not provided them with required informaiton about your affairs.0
