Help with SSP1 Form - what do i do with it?!

Options
Hi,

I was signed off earlier this month for 4 weeks due to depression, unfortunately I earn just under the amount I need for normal SSP so my employer has filled out and given me a SSP1 form and also my sick note back.

My question is - what do I do with it now?

Thanks for any help anyone can offer :)

you go to the job centre and get Incapacity benefit via them (may now be called something else)

Thanks, do I get it there and then, like a giro slip or do I have to wait?

Can honestly say Ive NEVER spoken to a member of staff at the job center!

Will they go through my tax credits or anything to make sure Im entitled to it? I just want to have everything that I need so its not delayed any more than it has to be.

Hope you're ok alison999, I know it's not the best of times to be feeling low x

If you call the JCP on 0800 055 6688 they'll be able to help you. AFAIK they are not open now until next week, but they'll be able to send out the relevant forms and/ or tell you where to send your SSP1 to.

You will be best to contact Tax Credits separately. If you have a look at www.hmrc.gov.uk, you'll find a contact number for them.
    Gone ... or have I?

when I went on IB due to not being paid SSP from my work, it took about 4 - 5 weeks to sort out my claim, and it didnt effect my WTC and CTC.

4 - 5 weeks?! I should be back to work on the 5th of January (am feeling a lot better now!) but not sure about how i'll be paying rent in January now :(

I'll give them a ring on Monday and see what they say. Im hoping my tax credits arent affected as that pays for my childs nursery fees and hes still been going on his set days, hope thats not classed as a over payment!

Thanks for all your help, will see what happens on Monday :)

no tax credits wont be classed as an overpayment, as you can be on IB for 26 or 28 weeks before it would stop. My son was also still going to nursery when I was off. I managed to get some Housing benefits for the period of when I was off sick. Funnily enough though my IB payment came through just as I returned to work. Was off for pregnancy related Illness, in hospital for 1 week as well.

Hopefully your claim wont take as long to sort out.

Have a nice christmas and I hope you start to feel a bit better x
