At least he showed remorse, unlike Mr Madoff it seems.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

surely his life insurance wouldn't pay out?
Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?
  • Very sad and my thoughts are with those he left behind.

If it was me I'd have taken Madoff with me.

And yet, isn't Madoff under 'house arrest' … in his million-dollar mansion? Why isn't he in prison?
  • He should be tried for manslaughter as well as all the other charges. The death penalty would be too good for him.

Bernard Madoff: Borrowed more and more money in a free for all spending spree, while telling everyone that he was a financial guru of superhuman brilliance, and when people needed it back just borrowed vast sums more to bribe them off, telling them it’ll all be fine and don’t worry about the future.

Gordon Brown: a man of enormous moral fortitude, whose financial acumen and prudent policies have set Great Britain on a course of eternal stability.

Look at the many failings, the links with Politicians and powerful individuals, and the stench goes far wider than just a few crooks. Regulators missing warning signs, Politicians believing that economies can grow for ever, Banks paying bonusses based on ficticious valuations etc. Do you think Gordon wants events examined closely when he has been so much at fault?
  • This case has nothing to do with our PM.

This is so tragic. At the end of the day it is only money, and how can money be worth more than someone's life. I feel so desperately sad for his family and friends, and hope that no-one else takes this route.

I'm not saying I agree with this but I read somewhere that the value of a human is about 2P.
Also was it not the case that in WW2 Hitler offered to sell Britain Jews for a very small sum but the offer was turned down.

Sadly, the reality is that everything has its price, even us ;-(

I agree. What I was actually alluding to is the wider issues, the Madoff case is just the tip of an iceberg of a major scam by all of the Banks as they chased greater profits, and individuals chased ever larger bonusses. Because of the lack of regulation, the Banks got away with it, and crooks like Madoff hardly looked out of place, and could carry out their scams. To be honest, what Madoff did was not that far removed from what was going on in many Banks, and I suspect that 2009 will highlight an awful lot more crooks who abused the lack of regulation.
