  • £9 per hour sounds good to me. Good point about the hoover, I used to clean for a neighbour when my children were babies and she had an awful clapped out machine and a huge hairy dog. When I first started I used to find 20p coins under armchairs etc., and made a point of placing them with a note on the table. Never quite felt the same way about her after that she was obviously checking if a) I was doing the job b) was honest. Good Luck

Don't forget you will need some kind of insurance like public liability insurance if you are self employed and working in her home. The cost of this could outway anything you are earning though if you are only doing one hour a week.

It's not compulsory by law, but if something dreadful happened and you hadn't got it the consequences could be awful.

  • i'm giving up work to become a cleaner.... at a minimum of 7 quid an hour i'll be at least 90p an hour better off! and i'd kill for a tenner an hour.....
  • Hmmm. Some good points here.
    Thanks guys.
If I do my own tax and get insurance, then £9.50ph is probably about right if I was to make a part time business out of it.
Not really worth it for one hour a week though is it......?
