standard life endowment

I have written to standard life about my shortfall on the policy but they say its nothing to do with them.

I got my mortgage through a mortgage shop that no longer exists and it was an halifax mortgage with a standard life policy. Should i now write to the halifax? Or am i an unlucky one?

You write to the advising company. If that was Halifax, you write to them, if it was not and the mortgage shop doesnt exist anymore you can complain to the FSCS, providing it was post 1988. Another option is to ask Standard Life where the renewals are being paid on the policy. They could be keeping them for themselves or they could be paying them to the original company who may have only moved address but still exist.

  • Thanks for prompt reply and advice.

Who is the FSCS and where are they based?

    The endowment commenced april 1988.

How often would the renewals be paid.

I will write to the halifax and also the FSCS keep a couple of irons in the fire.

At one point the Halifax were tied agents for Standard Life, so it probably was the Halifax that sold you the policy.

Right, an update here. If the product was recommended prior to 28th August 1988 you cannot complain to the FSCS (financial services compensation scheme). It is the end of the road. Consumer protection came in after that date.

If it is Halifax that sold the endowment, then they will almost certainly still review the complaint.
