I've got to make a banoffee pie for 1 of the puddings for Christmas day!
I've never made on before and a friend said that you can now buy a caramel version of the condensed milk and you can use that for the caramel bit - but how do you thicken it? What do you add to it? I know with the normal version you use brown sugar etc
Anybody used the caramel version for a banoffee pie - how does it work?
Cheers!

I've not used the Carnation one, but there are various versions -Bonne Maman do a Confiture du Caramel and then there's the Spanish Dulce de Leche. They are all milk and sugar boiled to toffee. I would assume that the Carnation one does not need thickening. Just pour it on to the base of your banoffee pie.0

Nestle have done the hard work for you and have heated the condensed milk up, so that it's caramelised in the tin.
As ThriftLady says, just pour it into your base and off you go.0 -
Oooh sounds to easy to be true!
Well we shall see how it works tomorrow
Thanks

I used it once before for millionaire shortbread and found that there was a bit of an after taste to it0

I have used this in a banoffee pie and it was fine ...everyone commented on how delicious it was!! Good luck and don't worry it will be fine!0

I also used it for millionaires shortbread and thought it had an after taste, but it wouldn't stop me doing it againPlease forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0
