Getting Funding Looking For Work

Has anyone else had the same issue? I know people who were lazy workshy barstewards(avoiding the french) who ended up in good jobs because of funding to send them on courses.
Yet ive been refused 4 potentially good jobs because the Jobcentre refuse to give me funding to get the qualifications for the line of work I want.
Anyone else had these problems and how did you deal with it? :money:

What courses are you looking to get funding for?

  • The JC can only consider funding in certain circumstances. These would be through the Adviser Discretionary Fund (ADF).

In order for ADF to be considered, a person must have been in receipt of benefit without a break for 26 weeks (if signing on) or on New Deal. If this basic criteria is not met, the ADF cannot be considered.

Advisers can only allow up to £100. Above £100 and below £300 needs a business case and a referral to the Adviser Manager. Funding requests over £300 have to go even higher up the chain.

ADF is not a right. It is not an entitlement. A decision to refuse a request carries no right of appeal.
  • The other problem is, in my experience, is that not all Job Centre staff know this funding exists. I had to go several times to the Job centre and resorted to bringing a print out of their website so I would get funding even though I met the criteria.
This is because the staff denied any such funding existed. It turns out that the person who was responsible for helping to apply for funding sat right behind my advisor.

In the end I managed to get a job so never actually had to apply for the funding so I don't know how much "fun" that process would be.

Have you tried looking at colleges and universities yourself. There are free or lower fee courses available, depending on the benefits you claim and your household income and dependants.

I know the Open University offers help with fees. There's a calculator on their website which tells you how much you could be entitled to.
Here I go again on my own....
