Ive just been looking at my credit file online with Experian.
On there theres an old catalogue debt from 2003. It shows amissed payments on there. This is from when I got married the bill arrived before my big day and I forgot to pay it till I got back. This account has not been used since SEpt 2003 and had a credit limit of only £100 there is no balance on it
Is there anyway now this debt was paid off over 2 years ago I can get it off showing on my credit record. Can I write or should I write to the compnay involved and if so what do I say.
Also when you do close an old credit account like with Barclaycard and it shows up as nil balance how long do the details of the account stay on your report.
Thanks

My understanding is that if it is marked as a default it will stay for 6 years but the normal payment info e.g the 1 0 1 2 0 1 1 0 2 style info should be gone after 2 years.
I think it's a question of writing to the Information Commissioner but I could be wrong0 -
account conduct history can stay for up to 6 years, especial if the account was settled shortly after any missed payments.
the best way forward is to raise a "notice of dispute" with the relevant CRA stating that you believe the history trail to be misleading / inaccurate.
In a lot of cases the creditor wont even bother to reply to the CRA and after 28 days of no response the CRA will suppress the information from your file ( in simple terms it will not show on any future searches) It’s hard enough remembering my opinions - without remembering my reasons for them :rolleyes:0 -
Thanks filewizard can you please tell me how to do that?Mad Mum to 3 wonderful children, 2 foster kittens and 2 big fat cats that never made it to a new home!
