Well....the only "innocent" explanation for all this is that the agency has taken on a new (particularly inefficient) member of staff and they are creating problems with their inefficiency. But inefficiency is often used as an excuse not to do something firms dont want to do anyway.

You are in a position to know how likely or otherwise this is. I would be investigating the possibility of being "bank" staff to that hospital myself.

I see your point - that you have obviously thought through the fact that if the agency isnt keeping to their obligations to you (ie to pay you on time) then you cant be held to any restrictive obligations they have placed on you - and they arent that likely to try pursuing them - but the hospital may not "play ball" with doing that and facilitate this. But maybe being "bank" staff would deal with that.

I'm wondering whether a Recorded Delivery letter to the agency - listing all "mishaps" to date and making it plain that "no pay bang on time = no play by you" would be a way to get them to rectify their "cashflow problems" with you?

Hmm - you may be right - I have spoken to different staff there and each have handled this differently. One was very apologetic, so I spoke to her again this morning when the money wasn't in (she promised it to me on Friday). She said the CHAPS transfer was done yesterday, and my bank (Northern Rock) had rejected it as they don't accept Chaps on this account. I said I did not know this (how would I, I used to be paid on time:mad: ) and she said their finance dept would not have known this. She then said, changing tack just a bit:rotfl: that they had sent a BACS payment through yesterday on realising the Chaps did not work, and this should be in my account tomorrow. I asked for this in writing and said that I could not continue to do shifts without written confirmation that this payment was on its way. She said yes, (but I never got this); half an hour or so later their finance dept phoned asking me for another account to which they could pay me by Chaps. I gave them my other current account details, and they said the money would be in today. Hallelujah! Just checked and after all their fussing around, they suddenly can pay me speedily when they need to. Still looking a bit suspect, but at least I put my foot down and they listened. You are right, I will make a note of what has happened and see what happens in future, and stop working for them if it happens again. Thanks for the advice everyone. Happy (ish) ending...

I had a problem like that once. If you have trouble again I found that wondering aloud if I hadn't better consult with the CAB (in a very innocent tone) got a cheque in the post quick sharp. Wonder if it's the same agency...

It is a specialist medical staff agency based in Oxford St..

thanks - they obviously need a kick up the backside now and then. Funny how they can suddenly become super efficient and have the money in my account within hours! Ie when they were threatened with letting their client down:rolleyes:
  • These Agencies are complete 'Pond Life'

It's ok when they want you to do something, But when you ask them a 'Favour' it's ohh, Errm, Maybe?

They pick you up and drop you when THEY want to.
