I always make a policy of never purchasing warranties and just accept the 12mths. Most people purchase many electronic items and overall they tend to be alot more reliable than the total price of warranties. If you are really worried about repair costs etc then I would put what you would of spent on a warranty in a separate bank account and use that as your repair fund. Do this for all your items (this spreads out the risks) and you should find that you will have an ever increasing fund from which you can draw on and treat yourself to a new gadget once in a while.
At the end of the day the warranty price is a calculated bet by the company underwriting the warranty with an added margin (profit).
SO FORGET THE WARRANTY ON ALL YOUR PURCHASES.
You can sometimes find that you were not covered for what you thought you were.
In addition on electronic goods you should consider that the high tech items devalue rapidly over time. I would expect that BRAVIA model to depreciate by 30-40% in 12-18mths so a 200quid warranty starts looking even more expensive after the manufacturers 12mths cover.
Buy at the lowest price. Look out also for discount voucher codes on this website and use a cashback site to get yourself another 20-40quid at least.
If you are buying from a store you can always try and get an additional discount by taking out the extended warranty and then cancel the extented warranty when you get home (I think it's your legal right to do so within 7 days). If you offer them the bait of purchasing the ext. war. then they will be more generous discounting the TV as the store can often make more on the warranty than on the product itself.
