someone I knew bought their raw silk ivory dress brand new off e-bay with a huge train - the train was cut off to make a bridesmaid's dress, with a bit of an addition with some contrasting coloured silk and was fabulous! The dress was apparently $7K new! It cost less than £50 still with the tags on.

My own wedding dress has lain screwed up in a bag in the bottom of my wardrobe for 14 years and not even been cleaned. Whoops! I wore the shoes quite a lot though! I recently went into my local dry cleaner's to get my daughter's ivory silk dress cleaned and they suggested I was it on a wool wash and press it carefully after - I think the whole dry cleaning thing is a myth - she said the only 'dry clean only' item she wouldn't handwash was anything with shoulder pads interesting!
