Sherry trifle - jelly or no jelly?

I'd love a proper trifle, but mum gets a Birds one every year

I've tried for about 25 years to be allowed to make a proper trifle, but I'm not allowed to, and I can't make a whole one just for me.
It would definitely have jelly in it though.0 -
I vote for jelly to. Darn it I forgot the sherry off the shopping listIt matters not if you try and fail, and fail and try again; But it matters much if you try and fail, and fail to try again.

It has to be without jelly. Scotch Trifle or Tipsy Laird is sponge, sherry, raspberries, custard (made with evaporated milk), cream and chocolate flake or toasted flaked almonds (although at Christmas I sometimes add some edible silver balls) Yummy.0

no jelly for us
sliced swiss roll, 2 tins of strawberries chucked on top - one tin drained otherwise its too soggy and a good glug of sherry
topped with custard and lots of whipped double cream
leave it for a few hours in the fridge for the flavours to meld together and its delish'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0 -

I actually prefer just jelly (none of those ladyfingers or fruit) in my trifle. I just hate the texture of crumbled/soft biscuits mixed with jelly eurgh :rotfl:0

Make one with fresh rasps a sliced ripe banana and homemade custard, they'll never want a birds one again;) I also use raspberry jam instead of jelly but it's ok to use rasp jelly too.0
