Please Help - a few questions

Hello Everyone

I have a few silly questions so please dont laugh - i havent planned a wedding before and never been to one lol

Well today we are finally debt free so serious savings start now.. We have booked the venue and it is set for October 2010 so we have got plenty of time - just hppe our jobs stay secure...

Anyway, the questions. First of all, our wedding is set for 2pm.

1. what time does the photographer come to me,

2. what time does the hair and make up ladies come?

3. what time will our wedding breakfast be?

4. And what time roughly will the evening start (Basically i need to know what time to book the chocolate fountain from?)

5. If i wanted a magician/caricaturist for the kids to keep them entetained, what time would i want them there? I assume its for when we are having our photos taken - so after the wedding cermony - but you higher them for 4 hours so will this go intot he wedding breakfast and evening too??

6. What time are canapes served - when you have your pics done?

I am just worying so much about the timings of everything, i have booked the photographer but havent given her a time yet and i am trying to book the choco fountain but they need to know what time to come and set up - but i havent got a clue!!

    Hi congratulations on your wedding.

Do you want the photographer to come to your house to see you getting ready? If so then you need to book him for the morning too - he will make his own way to the wedding venue.

How long does it take to get to the wedding venue from your home? This will give you an idea of when to start getting ready. Perhaps you should start getting ready at 11.00am? The hairdresser and makeup artist will come to your house when you say - mind you you might have to go to the hairdresser rather than them come to you. Same goes for the photographer.

Assume that your wedding will take about 50 mins (it could be less) then you would be looking at having your wedding breakfast at about 4-4.30pm. Allow about 2-3 hours for this because you will need to fit in the meal, speeches, cutting the cake and your first dance. You don't have to have an evening do but if you want to have one then I would suggest that it starts at around 8-9pm (in my experience it is usual for folks getting married late in the day not to have an evening do).

Canapes are served when you arrive at the wedding reception venue - people will have a drink and some nibbles and maybe you will have some photos taken before you go in for your meal. The caricaturist is usually booked for the wedding breakfast to provide some form of entertainment for the guests (not just children). If you wanted entertainment that is just for kids and to keep them away from the photographs then you could hire a nursery company to keep them entertained e.g. someone like Artful Splodgers.

You have plenty of time to sort things out - what I have given is a vague idea, if you need some help I suggest that you contact a wedding planner - a planner can save you money and will sort out the plan for the day with you as well as helping you with your theme - a planner can be as hands on or hands off as you like but will at least help you not only save money but save on stress.

I forgot to say yesterday, you have loads to do before you start stressing about what happens on the actual day. Elsewhere on this forum (in a sticky at the top somewhere) there is a list of things that you should do between now and the wedding - its a plan that will give you some idea on the order of things.
  • 1. what time does the photographer come to me,

we had our wedding at 4pm and our photographer arrived at 2pm to take pics of the bridal party getting ready

    2. what time does the hair and make up ladies come?

i had my make up done at 11 am so it was done before hair and dress etc

    3. what time will our wedding breakfast be?

we had our wedding breakfast at 9 am but bear in mind we was all starving by 2 pm so ordered lunch too

    4. And what time roughly will the evening start (Basically i need to know what time to book the chocolate fountain from?)

we got back to the hall by 6pm and had drinks etc waiting and all seated by 7pm ready to eat

    5. If i wanted a magician/caricaturist for the kids to keep them entetained, what time would i want them there? I assume its for when we are having our photos taken - so after the wedding cermony - but you higher them for 4 hours so will this go intot he wedding breakfast and evening too??

i would have them during the food into the evening, we went to one recenlty were they had this (charactitures and balloonists) and it went down really well

  • UUmmm - sorry to be a sad old git but ........... if now debt free etc - do you really want to spend soooo much dosh on a huge `do'. Wouldn't something smaller be a good idea so you can get more dosh towards something REALLY important - like a home?
Please don't all shout at me.!!
  • Skintmostofthetime, we have already got 30k saved for a deposit on a house, but the way the market is at the moment we arent looking to buy for a while yet. I dotn want to lose the 30k we have saved up for!! My dad owns 3 houses, and we are in one at the minute, which my dad wants to put into my name anyway so to be honest a house is the last thing we are worrying about.

We can save 1500 a month, and if we stick to the budget we have been on, we can save a lot more than that!

So, although we should be spending the money on a home, we are saving for both. And i never mentioned anything about a posh huge do anyway!

(Plus my mum said she will pay for it anyway :P lol )

Thank you all for your replies - our venue is for both the reception and wedding, so i am going to speakt o them about times they suggest and hopefully work out from there. I have most things sorted - its just when i book them they always ask for times and i dont no what to tell them!!

You only get wed once so make it a day to remember, our wedding day really was the best day of my life.
Don't worry about times, when you talk to people you are booking they have all the experience of weddings and can advice you of best timings etc. you tell them what you have timings for and they will know best
U need to make sure you have your reception booked, where the wedding is taking place, bands/disco's booked, cake decorator booked, cars booked, find a hairdresser and beauty salon you trust and book a few trials, florist and enjoy planning your wedding. Buy yourself a little note pad and keep it for wedding ideas only and as you think of somethin or see something you like over the next 18 month write it down.
    Congrats by the way!
  • Does your venue have a wedding co-ordinator? If so, they will be able to help you with regards to times of the service, meal, evening reception etc. and will advise about the chocolate fountain and the charicaturist etc.
Depending on what you arrange for yourself determines what time you will need the photographer.
Speak to your hairdresser/make up ladies they will have done all this before and will have local knowledge of distances, travel times etc. so will advise you of the time they think will be best for them to be there, you are perfectly at liberty to alter this if you choose on this day you are the boss!
Once you've decided on the timings for your 'beauty regime' you will then have more of an idea what time you would like the photographer to arrive at your home.
Don't worry it will all slot into place but do use the people who do this for a living and ask their advice.
Most importantly of all - enjoy!!!!
