Steam Generator Iron.....help!!

I have just bought a Steamworks steam generator iron.
I'm not sure if it's working correctly though, you have to keep the button pressed under the iron handle for the steam to work?
Is this correct or is it broken?

No, it doesn't say in the book
  • Continue to use it for now and pop in shop and ask next time your in town .I think it is probably meant to work that way.

It is from Argos so the shop assistants may not know.
It doesn't say you have to keep the button pressed in the book, only for vertical ironing.
I will try it again, thanks.

I know with our steam generator iron, I've got to press the button before we get steam. This is our second one and it's been the same for both of them. Saying that, it's DH that does most of the ironing, but I do know how to use it ;)

my steam generator iron is a philips, i have to keep the button pressed for steam, but on mine i can slide the button back so the steam stays on all the time if need be.
I tend to use short sharp blasts of steam when using mine so i'm not too fussed about the steam being on all the time.

My steam generator also has the button that needs to be pressed, I've had 2 irons and they have both been the same.
