If anyone could share there ideas would be great.

Pots of gold can cost a little or a lot depending on the size of your pot and what you choose to put in them. Could definitely make them for less than a fiver.

How about this for a very cheap but lovely idea... http://www.craftbits.com/viewProject.do?projectID=453

Fact jar - put 365 facts in a jar (one for each day of the year). I've done this, if you want a copy of the facts I used please PM me your email address.

Anything in a jar is cheap particularly if there's a few empty jars kicking around.,

I did pots of gold in empty cook in sauce jars, some I got from a boot fair and the first one I did in an empty gravy granule tub with paper stuck round the outide with coins on. - cost was just the chocolate
Safe keeping jar - jar with loo roll middle in the centre, dried beans or beads round the side to keep it in place - cost nothing
Journal in a jar- price of book and whatever its decorated with
Pick 'n Mix in jar or tin - I used tins and printed out quotes or silly bits of into and popped some sweets in as well - cost of container and sweets
Flannel yule log -cost of two flannels, ribbon and holly

Can't think of exact cost but I know it wasn't much

    Good luck:j

I know it's perhaps a bit late for some of the things they suggest, but Channel 4 has a page of home made "Credit Crunch" foodie gifts - some different ideas like infused sugar, preseved lemons, sweet chestnuts and retro sweets.CLICKY
  • I am making these with some kids I work with tomorrow - not expensive if you think of packagint two or three up prettily and could be nice to give with a bottle of wine - would be less than a fiver!
They are very nice too, and can be decorated with rolled out icing or just a sprinkle of icing sugar!
I have just finished making some mini chocolate xmas puds for my OH to take into work.

    7 oz plain choc
    2 oz butter
    2 tbsp golden syrup
    7oz digestive biscuits (crushed)
5oz dried fruit (I just added raisens)

melt the choc, butter and syrup then mix in biscuit crumbs and fruit, squeeze together into round balls.

Decorate with rolled out white icing, and finish with Holly and berries. I piped mine with icing pens but you could also cut out of coloured icing.

I made quite small puds so got about 30 out of 1 batch of mixture.
