Freezing stuffed turkey breast

Bit of a wally this morning. Bought a fresh stuffed turkey breast this morning then noticed this afternoon that the best before date is 22 Dec. I've stuck it in the freezer which defeats the object of buying fresh but at least I've noticed and there'll be no food poisoning on Boxing Day.

My question is, should I cook from frozen on Christmas Day or thaw in the fridge beforehand. If I do thaw it out, how long should it take to defrost 2.5kg worth, I was thinking Tuesday morning.

Thanks for any advice.

  • I would have thought it would have been ok to be kept in the fridge till you were cooking it. As its now been frozen, i would take it out Tuesday evening and leave it in the fridge to defrost.

FSA's advisory defrosting time for a 2.5kg bird in a fridge at 4C is 25-30 hours.

Take 30 hours to be safe. If you're cooking it at midday on 25th then just before you go to bed on 23rd will be more than sufficient.

I have defrosted mine on the worktop in the garage. :o Its cold out there and beside the size I normally buy wouldn't fit in my fridge.
