HBOS hell on a DMP

I've been on a DMP with CCCS since last year - CCCS have been great - some companies have been great - some terrible - out of 13 creditors , Yorkshire Bank, Halifax & Bank of Scotland have been awful.

I'm tearing my hair out at the moment with Bank of Scotland & Halifax.

Both are saying that even though they have my new expenditure,(our payments have gone down due to daughter moving to Uni and me starting a new job on a lower pay scale while on probation) they can't put me on a new agreement as at the time of calling them, my account was up-to-date. (a shortfall in the payment sent against their min payment means the account goes into arrears for a week or so)

They suggested I move the statement day, so that my account will fall into arrears, so they can then put a new aggreement on my account.
When passed to the department to do this, I fail their security as, I no longer have the card (cut up) I can't give details from this, I can't remember any password I set up on the account either!
I can't even get them to stop calling me when the 'missed ' payment shortfall happens! They just hound me.

I don't know what to do - my last statement showed I paid £31.45 - interest & late fees add £30.19 back onto the account!!!

I'm back on the depression pills and having to take time off work with stress thanks to HBOS - how can I get them to put my account into collections and keep it their? I don't want the account open- I just want to pay back what I owe

  • Hi and welcome.
    HBOS are notoriously difficult!
DO NOT deal with them via the phone, use the letter template that states you will only deal with them in writing.
Keep in touch with CCCS and let them know the stress and difficulty that HBOS are causing to you.

Hi BH - nice to hear from you again, even though it is because you are having hassles.

I don't know the procedures on DMPs, so will have to rely on others to give you the benefit of their knowledge and experiences, but just want to say hang on in there - it will get better, and it will settle down.

Stay strong and look forward to a good 2009 x

  • Hi
This might not be much help but Halifax/HBOS have been making my life hell. I've been on my dmp with CCCS since this time last year and they've refused to accept it and continue to lump on charges and they continuously hound me although it has quietened down on that front since I complained to them and the world. I am still waiting to Hellifax to pass my account to a DCA but a year later, they still haven't.

I just ignore their calls and keep paying them what I can afford. Not sure what to suggest but wanted to let you know that you are not alone with them.

  • Hi I am in the same boat,, It is HBOS policy not to accept reduced payments. i have been on a DMP for two years and tehy still refuse to accept a payment plan, have slapped interest on and charges to boot. they phone my answer phone most days and i get a letter every couple of weeks. I am simply waiting for them to pass me to a DCA

don't speak to them on the phone and just keep paying what you can,,, there are so many people in the same boat ..try not to worry

  • Thanks - i've been away from the board for a while - new job meant no internet access for a while until we could afford a new broadband package - feels good to be back - the helplessness feeling really does go when you can 'touch base' here now and again.

Don't feel so 'got at' after posting - quick reminder it's not personal when others are going through the same thing.

    Thanks everyone xx

Didn't want to read and run partly because I've just had a phone call from Halifax ten minutes ago and fingers crossed they have got the message. I've been on a dmp with cccs since July and Halifax continued to hound me with calls, especially at the weekend. Just spoken to a nice enough guy who has acknowledged my reduced payment and stopped all charges and reduced the interest on my account. (I'll believe it when I see it on next statement though!)

I've accrued over £400 worth of charges since the start of the dmp with the Hailfax alone so hopefully if all charges have now stopped I'll be trying to claim them back in the new year.

Maybe you could try writing to them (recorded delivery of course) explaining your situation again and politely asking if they could stop charges and interest on your account? They can only say no.

Keep plodding on though, it is worth it and one day you'll deal with someone nice enough on the other end of the phone who'll sort it out for you.
