Solicitors fees for changing name on mortgage

Basically I am buying my ex out of our house, it's a well mannered split up and I have agreed to pay her £5,500.
The mortgage company are fine and have got everything in place and the Keyworker loan company are happy with everything.
Now it is left for the solicitors to take their bit to simply remove her name from the deeds and liase with the mortgage company.
They are looking to charge about £750 to do this, which seems very expensive especially when they did all the checks etc a few months ago when we were looking to initial sell.
Two questions come from this. Do those fees sound about right and is there any way of not using solicitors?
Thanks.

Seems expensive to me, I would have thought £3-400 would be reasonable for a simple transfer of equity.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. This is a legal procedure, therefore can only be undertaken by a solicitor. As with lots of services, it depends what part of the country you live. How much did they charge you for the purchase initially?0 -
whe is your mertgage up for renewal as if done as part of the remortgage it will only coast about 100-1500

Done this in June this year only the other way around. To release me from the mortgage and for me to receive half the equity in the property and removed from the deeds and re-registering ex only cost £570.00 in total. We paid this out the joint account before closing that as well.
This is in Scotland by the way.
Good luck.0
