Anyother Personal Assistants ('Secretarys' ;)) out there?

I was wondering if there are any other PA's out there like me. I work for a 'one man band', and to be fair, he is great as a boss, but on the odd occasion when I want to murder him, it would be great to have somebody else who understands what it's like to work so intensely with one person. Also to have a resource/sounding board when I am set projects (can be anything from finding a hotel in Turin, to purchasing a web cam and setting up SKYPE, to producing the paper work for foreign sales)....

Does anyone know of a forum for people like me?
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

Heh-heh...sounds like my wifes' boss. Drives her insane sometimes. Absolutely brilliant to work for but sometimes his quirks just get so bad she tells him to sod off for a round of golf for the morning so she can get some work done.

I used to be a PA and worked for some tinkers in my time (I am being polite when I call them tinkers because I cannot bring myself to say just how bad they were at times). thankfully I am now my own boss so don't have the hassle for working for someone else these days.:D

  • Yep, been there done that, got the T shirt.... got made redundant after nearly 12 years. You wouldn't believe the amount of times my ex boss got the fierce end of my tongue!

Now temping in an ongoing temp role since October as a secretary in a large company and organising conferences in New York and Mexico and all over the world but enjoying it as temping so can leave when I want if I wish. Getting paid more than I was in my perm job and less stress, so I'm sticking with it for as long as they will have me...

Hi, if you are looking for a sounding board, the UK DeskDemon site www.deskdemon.com has a large forum board where PAs and secretaries discuss lots of issues affecting them, and recommend products and services that they need. PAs from all over the world use the forums so if you have a boss travelling somewhere, i.e. New York, you can always ask PAs who live/work there for recommendations of where to stay, eat, car hire etc., I use it alot and find it very helpful.
