Outstanding Debt - Time limits?

My sister-in-law had a dispute with a major utility company a number of years ago. She settled with them six months ago but they have now come back to her again and are now trying to charge her another £280 for the period Oct 2000 to Oct 2001.
I was under the impression that debts over three years old couldn't be chased in this way? She has already settled with them in good faith once, what are her rights?

Have a search through this forum. I'm pretty sure it's 6 years provided it hasn't been chased in that time. Secondly what do you mean by "settled"? Full and final? Have they taken that payment as an interim payment?A house isn't a home without a cat.
Those are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others.
I have writer's block - I can't begin to tell you about it.
You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception.

Firstly debts are only “Statute Barred” after 6 years of non payment or non acknowledgement by the debtor.
With regards to the settlement, it would depend on how this was agreed, if it was a short settlement paid directly by the debtor then the creditor is within their legal rights to attempt to recover any outstanding amount.
Perhaps if you can provide details of how much the debt was, and how much it was settled for Ect. Then we can advise further:rolleyes: It’s hard enough remembering my opinions - without remembering my reasons for them :rolleyes:0
