Can you recycle old MP3 players?

I have had a search and can't find anything, but is there anywhere where you can recycle MP3 players (non-working)

Because consumer eletrical items are so widely dispersed, the kinds of schemes available to businesses haven't been put in place, but producers pay into compliance schemes that fund take back via civic amenity sites.

If you take you MP3 player to your local civic amenity site (tip) they should have a facility for disposing of electrical equipment. This will be dealt with in line with the WEEE directive, so the majority of it will be recycled (they shred it and recover the materials).

Although consumer items have the crossed-out wheely bin on them, its not yet illegal for small electrical equipment to be put in residential waste and go to landfill, although it is for businesses. Until councils have kerbside collections/improved sorting of rubbish, I don't think there'll be much improvement.
