Recently my boyfriend witnessed someone beign mugged there in broad daylight and he was the only one who went over to the victim lying on the floor. Everyone else just stepped over him

depending on where you live in suffolk, i prob wouldnt even contemplate moving. Trains into london from Ipswich are fairly regular. ok reliability can be a bit hit and miss, but that just seems to be the nature of trains

also if you like suffolk, i dont think you would enjoy moving to stratford, the pace of life is so different

if you wanted to cut the commute time down a bit, then maybe move a couple of stops up the network, so colchester, witham, chelmsford. But any nearer to London than chelmsford and the house prices start to increase dramatically, compared to what you can get for your money in suffolk. however living in suffolk means you are one of the first on the train, so get a nice seat to relax in on the way to work. coming home though, most people get on at liverpool street, so its unlikely you would get a seat coming home, until you at least reach chelmsford

    DON'T DO IT!!!!
I have to agree with the other posters that say moving there is not a good idea.I grew up there at in Stratford and as soon as I had kids I got straight out of there. The only way I would move back with kids is if I could afford to send them to private school.Every time I used to go back to visit it seemed dirty and more run down then my last visit.Lucky everyone I know has now moved out so I no longer have to go there.
  • Hi

Just like to say I live in Forest Gate which is two stops down from stratford
with oh and daughter, have lived here for 9 years and love the area for it`s multi ethnic, which is great for my daughter, as she respects other cultures etc
Like anywhere it has it good and bad points, and I have also lived in Suffolk, which is where my oh is from, but like everywhere you make the best of it, use your judgement and learn the character traits of the area.
  • My husband worked there for 4 years - loved the job but got the hell out of the area every night as it felt unsafe. We wouldnt live there but you may found areas out of there nicer but do please please please check out schools both primary and secondary.
It is so hit and miss to finddecent schools. We have excellent primary ones and then due to changes in admissions policies and the local council closing schools we fell out of the catchment for the "good" comprehensive and into the catchment for the "not so good" secondary - it was a nightmare.

I find that worse than Stratford.

  • hi black saturn

why do you find it worse than forest gate ?

it has one of the most desirable property areas in london

i.e woodgrange estate with wanstead flats close by , (huge park)

it has beacon schools (one of which my daughter goes to)

The east end has the largest population of different cultures within europe

Again like everywhere it`s what you make of it.....

There was a murder along Romford Road last weekend and the prostitutes along there are a "nice" area I could do without. If you think it's alright for your children to grow up in an area like that it's up to you. Enough said!!!

  • You can live out as far as Southend and still be in Stratford within 40 mins on the fast trains.

I live in Westcliff, and a 3 bedroom property can range from £140k - £300k+ depending on the area you want to live in, Schools are good as well and you have good local shopping in Southend and are a 15-20 min drive from the Lakeside shopping centre.
