Question about tax, ....again

I dont think something is right. Basically Im doing temporary work over xmas about 3 and half weeks. 5.95 per hour, 40 hours per week.
Because of the employer their payroll didnt get my p45 in time for my first wage. So i paid 47.60 income tax and 14.63 national insurance. Net pay 175.77. They taxed me on BR C-U-M (forum blanks that bit out spelt normally), whatever that stands for.
I phoned payroll to see if theyd got my p45 etc. They said it arrived to late for the first wage and any differance with be added to the 2nd wage.
The 2nd wage. Paid 26.00 income tax and 15.61 national insurance. On hours above plus £8.93 for an induction at the start. Net pay 205.32. Taxed me using 0603L WK1.
What if anything is wrong

The "C U M" is their abbreviation for cumulative. If that had continued, they would have looked at your total pay with them (so in week 2 would have counted both that week and week 1 to get the amount on which your tax to date would be calculated).
However that is not what is happening as you have moved to the 603L tax code operated on a Week 1 basis. This means that it will only look at which you earn in that week and not take account of earlier earnings. So the fact that you have not earned enough to pay tax in the year to date is not included in the calculation.
You need to get in touch with HMRC in order to have your tax code changed to operate on a cumulative basis.0
