Need help with Tesco coupons!!

I shop only occasionally at Tescos, as i dont do the weekly shopping at home. I usually spend around £10-30 in any one time, on a variety of random things like cheap clothes, underwear (i buy all my underwear from tescos, good value and well made) snacky type foods like doughnuts cakes ice cream etc etc the typical late night shopping things

As i hardly spend enough money in tescos, i have a simply additional clubcard that is in my partner's name. and yes we get the coupons from the mailing list.

As a new mum, I have TONS of coupons i will never use, for example the mumplusone booklet etc etc. These are small things like 25p off Appletiser and 50p off Skinny cow ice cream, things i just dont buy!! I see a lot of people doing things like the daily coupon hunt, and I have a few questions.

Can you use coupons for money off your shopping when you're not buying the item? does the store HAVE to stock the item? Is there a minimum spend - ie. if i bought one magazine and used a 50p off skinny cow ice cream would the SA be all suspicious? Is there a maximum % i can have off in coupons? What about self serve tills - at what point are things put into 'lock down' and a supervisor called over? Say I used coupons to get £5 off a £25 spend would it be a little too much to take off? If I just gave my coupons to my MIL and told her to just give them to the SA during the big weekly shop which is usually over £170 regardless of if she bought them or not, would the SA even notice? Is it better to risk this with a big shop (since you pack as you wait and then the SA can't check without a big fuss) or can I do this with my smaller shops?

I know its a lot of questions, but I've searched over and over and can't find anything clear about this!

In general Tesco will accept coupons for things regardless of if you have bought them or not providing :

They are not tesco specific (but not other supermarket's either or internet printed ones - though these are SOMETIMES taken).

    The coupon is in date

The store sells the product (though as long as it scans you are home free)

The problem is with amounts......... they make it up as they go along on a store by store basis. My local store takes 25% spend. Another 10%, another one coupon. You will drive yourself mad trying to get a coherent policy......... best way is to try it and see. Your MIL sounds like she'd have no problem with the percentages....try a few stores.....don;t be embarassed, just be polite. Many people pick young lads on Saturdays as they tend not to give a monkeys.

Self scans can be programmed to take a set percentage.......and you don;t find out till the end (this from someone who used about 20 coupons and had them ALL removed from the box).

If you buy a lot of clothing at tesco I assume you know about the coupons on https://www.clothingattesco.com (if they still offer them) - ie 5 off 25 spend. Very worthwhile.

I used a 5 off 25 clothing today and must've been about £15 coupons off a £65 shop. Every little helps.....and to hell with the person behind who had to wait another 45 seconds while my coupons were scanned :)

There are tonnes more coupons out there....... dulux is a good one for £3. Look on http://www.bobsfreestuffforum.co.uk/forum/index.php for one.

My Tesco takes coupons that I have downloaded and printed off the internet. Usually they go through no bother. Occasionally, if these's a problem and it doesn't scan immediately, I say 'Can you try typing the code in please?' The cashiers usually do this and it works a surprising number of times although not all!

Tried asking a checkout lady to type in a voucher once - she looked at me as if I was an alien saying we don't do that... You must have the gift of the gab - good luck

My tesco extra will only take the coupons if I have bought the item.I was chatting to a supervisor about it....It varies for each store I think...
