Setting up a premium rate number?

After reading the thread on here about phone sex orerators it got me thinking... could I set up my own premium rate number and adverise it?

Iv not looked into how much the number would be but if anyones knows of any big draw backs to doing this please could they let me know.

Biggest drawback is how much you have to pay in advertising, there are a lot of big service providers out there that like to protect their interests.

This was a problem that a new texting company I was a manager at had, they had the service, the platform, the short code everything, but were let down by the advertising, the costs were astronomical and there were certain publications they found it impossible to get into.

As i said iv not really looked into it but just had a quick scan on google, alot of companys are offering the premium rate number for 'free' and by the looks of it they take a cut out of anything you earn off the number. Even after the cuts, you'd still be making more per minute than you do working for a phone sex company.
Would I be better just working for a company who will do the advertising for me or setting up the line, letting the provider take ther cut and doing my own advertising?

Is there money in running one of these companys? All your staff are self employed so thats sorted out one thing for you!

Sorry to go off track, but i was looking into something like this too. I wanted to create a sms chat platform. But i have no idea how to create the base to do something like this

lol! sounds like a plan! its got to be realitively simple to knock up an advert, get it in the local papers in your area shouldnt be to expensive. Then its just outsourcing the work.

Just a word of warning if you was to actually get anyone doing this work for you. If its anything like texting you have to pay wages out for 3 months before the mobile phone companies actually send you anything from the money you have made.

Ie..

You work.... people work for you... Phone company pay you 3 months later, plus the fines that are involved if you even touch on subjects that are not allowed or speak to a minor are astronomical. The you have taxes/vat/ advertising.
A 2x2 square in the back of the sun for instance 4 years ago was £ 750 A DAY!!

I always fancied a premium rate number so that I could give it to utility companies and banks, maybe even my employer.

I accept it wouldn't make a lot, but I'd feel better knowing that I'd be earning when they'd screwed up my account or wanted to tell me I was over my overdraft limit etc If they really annoyed me I'd randomly put them on hold for minutes at a time.

Ur, actually - is there any reason why I shouldn't do this!?

Doesnt sound like it Chimpski! what a fabulas idea lol id be happy enough to charge the debt companies £1.50 a min to ring me then they can stay on the phone as long as they like:p

i just like the isea of giving it to my employer. i could pull a sicky one day and when my manager phones me put him on hold while 'be sick' and make up for my loss of earning by sittin on my bum!!!
