Help With Loan Company!!!!!!!!!

I took out a loan with welcome in 2001 and defaulted on the account, this was then passed to direct legal & collections who sent me all sorts of threating letters. I finally paid the rest of my balance off last june and it's still on my credit report now!
I have contacted welcome finance who say they've not willing to amend my credit report because they passed the debt to the lewis group but when i contacted them i was told welcome took it back off them and sold it to dlc.
I then told welcome this and they told me they've got no record of it, i've contacted dlc who have tried to contact welcome but to no avail.
I've sent many a letter to welcome in the last couple of months explaining this and nothing seems to be getting done.
This is affecting my credit rating and i could use some advice please
thanks

Hi Jamie,
I paid of a few debts which show as settled on my credit reports. It also says they will stay on for 6 years.
You could always ask ( which 1 of the credit reports it is on ) to investigate the matter for you.
Hope this is of some help to you.0 -
It will stay on your report for 6 years, even if it has been paid off. It will show as settled, but will not drop off until 6 years from date of default. File Wizzard - please confirm this!!Mortgage-free wannabe!0

I'm no file_wizard...lol...BUT I will confirm this
The debt will remain on your credit report for 6 years from the defualt date ....even if settled...So therefore since the account was defaulted in 2001 it will so on your credit file until 2007
I have some settled accounts on mine (sorted after a month or so after default registered) back from 2000, they are still on there and wont be removed until July...
but more disconcerning is that the OP's debt was settled back in June and it not recorded as settled yet......and then no one seems to want to acknowledge 'ownership' of the debt....Do you have a letter stating the debt has been settled etc when the last payment was paid?? If you do I would send a photocopy recorded delivery to the company listed on it and state that you wish to have the account updated as settled on your credit records
