OS places and events

Hi all
After organising OS meets and the slight difficulties I encountered in the Age Exchange place, I have started exploring new venues. While doing this I have come across a few places and events that I thought would be good to share with other OSers.
Perhaps everybody can post their favourite OS place/event for the pleasure and information of our fellow OSers.
Let me start:
Does anyone fancy a trip to Whitstable? Check this out, I shall be going one of these Saturdays. Details in this link: http://www.canterbury.gov.uk/buildpage.php?id=2394
Found on the Transition Towns website: http://transitiontowns.org/Whitstable/Whitstable
Whitstable Museum are holding a “Make Do and Mend” exhibition Saturday 13th December to 21st February 2009.
Please post your favourite places and events!
Love to all

We have health walks twice a week in and around our village and there are lots of other walks in the area and all round the country.
http://www.whi.org.uk/walkfinder/home
The are free and an excellent way to meet people and find out more about where you live.
If you train as a walk leader you can organize and lead your own walks eg, you could arrange walks for people with pushchairs, or lunchtime walks etc.
They are also starting to organise 'green exercise' in various places.0 -
Goodness, nobody else?
Ok let me give you another couple of free events coming up soon:
Sunday 21st December, St George's Church, Kirkside Rd, London SE3: Carols service with live choir (great singers, I used to join them but not this year), followed by tea and mince pies. You do not need to be religious, just to like listening to (and singing) Christmas carols.
Here is the map link: http://www.streetmap.co.uk/idmap.srf?x=540238&y=177765&z=110&sv=kirkside+road&st=1&tl=Map+of+Kirkside+Road,+SE3&searchp=ids.srf&mapp=idmap.srf
Christmas Eve 6:30 pm Carols service with music and readings, at St Martin's In the Fields, central London. It is supposed to be really lovely and this year will be the first year DH and I will go. I don't think you need to be religious to enjoy it, just to like carols (like the one at my local church). Here is the link for info:

I know this is London again but the Geffrye Museum is always worth a visit and is a real treasure. It has free admission and has all the rooms decorated in the Christmas style of the period. Check for opening times

In Peterborough, there is the very interesting Peterborough Cathedral. It's the final resting place of Katherine of Aragon. Also, it's FREE to get in!
Peterborough Museum is also quite interesting. Their guided walks (£5 for adults) are also VERY worthwhile. To be honest, I sneered at the "lack of history" in Peterborough when I moved nearby but I stopped sneering in the first few minutes of the ghost tour!
Oundle Museum also has changing exhibitions. I can't remember what is on at the moment, but it's open on every weekend and it's free to get into!
In addition, why not check out (if you're lucky to have one!) your community cinema. I help out at the Oundle Cinema nights - which is not only great for meeting new people, but also seeing films that I've a) managed to miss at the cinema and b) don't want to pay close to £7 AND drive all the way to the closest town!Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -
I sometimes use this site to find free things to do:

Thanks people, keep them rolling in!
I met two people who came to my cosmetics class after reading my post here about it, so it obviously works for the community!

I found another free facility for anyone interested, a fitness group that meets all over London for power walks and jogging: http://www.ahm-go.com/
Some of the events are charged (around £4 or so) but a lot of the community events are free of charge. They are going to start one in Greenwich in 2009 and I am planning to join it.Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
If you're a morris dancing fan [not everyone's cup of tea I know] many teams will be wassailing around 12th night [5th Jan]
