And I see that there is bound to be frustration Mr.B. Years of folk seeing the housing market rising way and beyond a lot of peoples purchasing power. I will repeat myself ( sorry to be boring ) but in the 80`s, in the south east LOTS of singletons earning not more than OK money were able to purchase and afford the repayment and now it is very hard for a 2 income family to do the same.
Frustration at seeing bankers making huge amounts of money at the very peril of banks going under due to total mismanagement. Frustration at our "leaders" who blatently relish the fact that they have their noses in the trough.
Frustration at how the media persuaded people that they were rich because of hpi and hammered away the " you are worth it " culture. Frustration at the dumbing down of the media, education and the gloryfication of the chav/ celeb culture.
Then there are old beggers like me. Years of hard work, knackered, taxed to the hilt and were looking forward to an above the bread line retirement who see mamy years of savings, investments and pensions getting blown away.
    Frustrated. Yes I am.

I feel for you big fella x

Thanks Mr. B. However I am one of millions approaching retirement who are experiencing the same thing. A year ago we were on course for a mortgage paid, around £30k a year total pensions including 2 full state pensions. It has got so bad that my wife is grabbing the statements before I can get my hands on them. For the good of my health she says.
Seen my investments go down a lot before but this time it feels more serious.

Frustration, lot of it about at the mo' ask carol t.

You couldn't be further from the truth mr b, after the year I have had, I'm in the best position I could have honestly hoped for, let me tell you.

No mortgage, a large amount of savings, 2 jobs, and if I lose them, I'm off to Australia with $100k to start a new life. I will be going there in 4 years anyway but I'm in a good position here at the moment and am able to save over 75% of my salary each month, I'd be silly to give that up.

Now if I still had my house around my neck I would be frustrated, probably sweating a bit too.

Rudd's a bit of a pillock. I don't mean pillock but the swear word filter is tough on this site so it'll have to do. We're getting a bit of political correctness creeping in here and he has some really dumb ideas (eg spending $2,000,000,000 on propping up used car dealerships). By and large the country is run very sensibly though.

Australia is known as the lucky country. I'd say that it's more the sensible country really. They do some really neat things. For example in most (all?) jobs you get paid 17% extra when you're on vacation because you spend more when you're on vacation!
  • Australia needs to be careful about who they let in. Generali will, of course, enhance the place. Others will bring somewhat less to the party.

Very kind of you to say so!

I was surprised to discover that I wasn't expected to be able to tick the 'yes' box for criminal convictions on the visa application. Apparently you don't need one any more.
